43 Trio

Hello everyone,

I have opened accounts for the 43 Trio but can’t find any tutorials that really tell you how to use them. I’ve looked at the FAQs and tried TeacherTube and YouTube. Could someone please give me a few intial step directions. For example, when I enter Steven Colbert in the 43 People search box, it says he can’t be found. I also don’t know if we are to put in names of living people we would like to meet or dead people we would like to have met. Ghandi didn’t turn up either.

Are there any step by step or initial explanations of how these sites work? Thanks for the help.

Maryanne

Maryanne, I have had an account on 43 People for a year now, and I have never used it. I tried putting in anyone I was even remotely interested in meeting, and no one showed up. The only luck I had was when I clicked on a name that showed up on the page.

If a site isn’t pretty intuitive, I have a tendency not to be interested, I think that is why I have never really explored these sites.

Sorry I can’t help! I just didn’t want you to think we were ignoring you!

Nancy

Nancy,

Thanks for the response.  I hope that someone who has found some use for the trio of sites gets back to me too.

The 43 Trio all share the same characteristics. You can find the tutorial and FAQ on 43Things, which apply to the others, in the Tools and Tutorials Page of SMiELT.

Although I know Nancy does not like it, I used 43 People with my students quite successfully and they enjoyed talking about and describing the characters (usually actors and actresses they favour). Here are some examples:

Why I admire Angelina Jolie
Why I want to meet Johnny Depp

It can be used to describe how you’ve met some people or just announce who you would like to meet and why. You can see how I have used it and some of the comments and responses. I am sure it is not difficult to imagine a scenario using this in ELT.

I'd just like to draw your attention to the fact that the same topic is being discussed over in 'including myspace et al'

Very interesting discussions, but you might want to move over to the above forum to further discuss it :-)

Done. We are now here where we should be - discussing Social Media in the Social Media Forum.

I’ve just spent 20 minutes trying and failing to tell 43 Places one place I’d like to go to. Of course it didn’t have it listed, so I was asked if I could locate it on a Google map. So I did, and then clicked Save. However I still show as having 0 Places. How discouraging is that?

I cannot see how to add People or Places from the Home page - yet this is supposed to be the main functionality of the site. Also, there do not appear to be any links between the sites for Places, People and Things. These basics should be clear to a first-time user.

Hi Michael,

Are you sure you were logged in and refreshed your cache? As I mentioned before, there is a tutorial provided in the SMiELT tutorial page for 43Things that works for the other two 43 (places and people).
