Browser compatibility

I find this site doesn’t display properly in Safari (Mac OS X) - everything is there, but the formatting of the page is all over the place. Whereas it’s fine in Firefox - obviously as it’s meant to be. Which means that if I happen to be using Safari, and log-in here, I have to log-out and open up Firefox … Is this a Mac thing or are there differences in Windows as well?

Okay — you can either blame Safari for not properly supporting Cascading Style Sheets, or you can blame us for developing a look and feel for this site without doing any rigorous browser testing.

As a quick fix, I’ve tweaked the site so that it allows everyone to switch to a different theme: go to your user profine ("My account" in the left sidebar) and select an alternative theme under the Edit tab.

Please report to this thread if the Zen Classic theme displays all three columns properly in Safari (never mind about the stuff in the sidebars, which won’t be completely identical to what you see in the default theme). If, and only if, Zen Classic’s layout breaks in Safari, then please switch to the Chameleon theme (which has a three-column layout that depends on an older, clunkier layout technique that is sure to hold up in pretty much any browser).

Depending on your report, I will adjust either Zen Classic or Chameleon to serve as an alternative theme and then disable the other.

Thanks, Rudolf.Zen Classic displays all 3 columns correctly in Safari, and looks very nice too.Chameleon also displays the layout correctly, although the page is narrower so my image now takes up too much space in the central column. So I’ll stick to ZC in Safari.[… and what has happened to the paragraphing ?? Should be 4 separate paras here! ]

I notice that I can’t be logged on to the site in 2 different browsers concurrently - which makes browser checks like this a bit awkward - I have to keep logging in & out, and occasionally lose something I was in the middle of doing, such as writing the previous reply …

I’ve disabled Chameleon, then, and will tweak Zen Classic a bit as I find the time. The paragraphing seems to break as a side effect of something else I’ve just attempted to fix — should be back soon.

Paragraphing

is

back.

Apologies for the inconvenience.
