Adding del.icio.us tagroll to Word Press
Posted January 31st, 2008 by Maryanne
Can someone give me some help in putting my tagroll on the sidebar of my Word Press blog? I go to the delicio.us/help/tagrolls page and copy the html code at the bottom of the page, but I can’t figure out what to do with it! :-( In Word Press the sidebar seems to be controlled by the Blogroll category, but that option only lets you add links, not html. Can anybody help me out. Thanks a bunch.

To prevent abuse, WordPress.com hardly allows any third-party code. You therefore can’t just copy and paste the code provided by Delicious — you’ll need to work through WordPress.com’s own Presentation > Widgets thingamajig.
@Maryanne. Go to Presentation - Widgets - Drag a Delicious Widget to your sidebar - click on the text box and:
Widget title: delicious
delicious login: username (in my case it was patricia9936)
Number of links: whatever you want
Click Save Changes. Once you fill it in, it will display all of your delicious tags. If you want only some of them to appear, configure this: "Show only these tags"

Hi Maryanne
I had the same problem and eventually after several tries figured out exactly what Patricia said. But I don’t seem able to get a badge into the sidebar, because it’s in html as well! Any suggestions?
There’s a Helpdesk thread on badges that may or may not solve your problem.
If you mean a network badge, it’s simple.
1. Go to "Presentation" -> "Widgets".
2. Add a text widget to the sidebar of your blog.
3. Click on that text widget and add a title or leave it blank.
4. Click inside the text area of the widget and paste the code of the badget you got in del.icio.us.
5. Update changes and see your blog.
Alright, then: if anyone’s interested in Dekita / SMiELT buttons, help yourself to this code.
It’ll look like this:
Rudolf, look at my blog to see how my buttons look like. It seems there is an alingment problem with the second button.
According to the W3C Markup Validator, the tables that hold the Flickr and the Oxford badge together are faulty (starting in line 104), presumably messing things up for anything placed underneath. Once you disable the Flickr badge, I’d expect the SMiELT Dekita and Meta sections in your sidebar to straighten themselves out of their own accord. If so, you should either fix that table or place the Flickr badge further down in the column.
Er — please ignore all of the above. This alternative code snippet will probably solve your problem.
Thank you Rudolf. The problem is solved now. Something was wrong with the code of the buttons.
Well, the code in your sidebar looks pretty much identical to the code snippet provided. Did you need to massage it in any way to make Wordpress accept it?
No, I didn’t. The buttons worked without any problem.
Cool. Your statement that something was wrong with the code was a bit ambiguous, then. I just thought I'd ask for a clarification so that others won't be put off using the snippet.
Patricia,
Thanks for the help. However, since adding the del.icio.us tags, everything else in my sidbar disappeared. Now i have to add everything again. Ugh!
Is there some way to revert to the older version sidebar?
Maryanne
Thanks Rudolf for your help. Maryanne, I am not sure why this happened to you.
